bella gives back
As owner and CEO of Angela's Bella Flora, Inc.., I am incredibly fortunate in so many ways. I have a job I love and a staff that is as passionate about flowers as I am. I am surrounded by an amazing support network of family and friends and I have the continual joy of parenting my happy, healthy children. However, I am painfully aware of the millions of children across the country that are abused and neglected each year. Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. Five children die every day in this country as a result of abuse and neglect. Perhaps most tragic of all, one in three abused children will grow up to abuse their own children, thus continuing this horrible cycle of violence.
At sometimes the worst moment in their lives, First Witness walks with children every step of the way.
This year, Angela's Bella Flora, Inc.. is partnering with First Witness Child Abuse Resource Center to help create a safer community for our children to grow and thrive. Since 1993, First Witness has been working to strengthen the community's response to child abuse and neglect by providing forensically-sound, child-led interviews to child victims of physical and sexual abuse. First Witness also provides follow up advocacy, counseling, information, referrals and support to the children and their non-offending caregivers to help them heal from the trauma of abuse.
Most recently, First Witness is taking a pro-active stance to help prevent child abuse before it starts with the Safe and Strong Child© prevention program. Presented throughout Southern St. Louis County and Lake County, Safe and Strong Child uses an interactive, developmentally appropriate curriculum to teach children how to keep themselves safe from abuse. The program also includes training and information for teachers and parents since child safety is ultimately the job of adults. When a child tells someone they have been abused the most critical time is the initial adult response. We focus on the adults because their belief of and support of that child will be the single most important factor in helping the child to heal. The classroom curriculum is focused on the message that abuse is never a child's fault and helps them identify safe adults to talk to about abuse. The program has received high praise from teachers, parents and children for its impact on child safety.
Your support is needed to ensure that all our children, as well as their teachers and parents, receive this important information. While First Witness does incredible work to help survivors of child abuse and neglect, your investment will help prevent this terrible crime from occurring in the first place. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to First Witness so they can continue to keep our children safe and strong!
